Ascot (H)

I'm sure those with footballing management skills know better than me - but what was the game-plan?

We seemed to be 3-2-3-2 without wingbacks, the more defensive 2 sitting narrow in front of the back 3. When the back 3 were overloaded it was unclear who was supposed to support them.

Meanwhile, where we did have width, and could get round the Ascot defence, the crossing ability of those providing width was severely limited. Elsewhere, our most creative players seemed to be a mixture of out of sorts / on the bench / out of position.

I thought the halftime reshuffle got players more back to playing in their best positions but the odd formation remained. We looked better coming forwards but the frailty of the back 3 remained, combined with a lack of clinical finishing up front saw any realistic chance of reaching the playoffs disappear.

On a positive note I thought our corners were very good - it seemed like we were first to the ball but just couldn't turn that into a goal on quite a few occasions.

It just felt puzzling, the performance of the team far below the combined talents of the players we have.

Another poor performance. Ascot deserved the 3 points but we lacked any sort of urgency!! mathematically still plenty to play for especially with AFC Portchester losing.

Sadly I think the season cant finish quick enough for this current group. Feels like we’re just going through the motions!!

We had 15/20 minute spell first half we could have scored but lack of a proven finisher and poor final ball just added to the frustration. Defensively all season we’ve been suspect and never been addressed and it’s costing us points every week, especially when we dominate possession for large parts but a poor pass Saturday in their half cost us on a counter attack again.

Jamie brought in a fair few players since taking over but most still have questions marks over them. Jude Mason return the stand out since arriving. Harry Grant scored a few goals apart from those 2 it’s been pretty ordinary.

The usual suspects when driving home for best United player, Kaylen Hinds, Amos Nasha, Tyler Hayles, Ben Purcell goes noticed. Louis Rogers puts in a shift every week but not sure centre back is his best position!!

Think next season could see a fair few new faces around the SkyEx!!
